Meta on Wednesday announced some Facebook users will be able to view eBay listings on its Marketplace features just months after the European Commission slammed the social media company with a hefty anti-competition fine.

Meta said on Wednesday it would launch a test in Germany, France and the United States that will enable buyers to browse listings from eBay on Facebook Marketplace and then complete their transactions on eBay.

Meta is set to start displaying eBay listings in its own Facebook Marketplace classifieds platform, in an effort to appease European regulators. Back in November, Meta was hit with a €798 million fine by the European Commission (EC) in Europe for breaching antitrust rules.

Meta's decision to showcase eBay listings on Facebook Marketplace is far from an admission of guilt. "While we disagree with and continue to appeal the European Commission’s decision on Facebook Marketplace, we are working quickly and constructively to build a solution which addresses the points raised," Meta stated in its announcement.

EBay’s stock price rose nearly 10% on Wednesday—one of its largest single-day increases in years—boosting the company’s market cap by about $3 billion to $33 billion. But the e-commerce company couldn’t credit a stellar earnings report or new product release for the sudden investor appetite;

The test, which is being launched to a small group in Germany, France, and the U.S. starting Wednesday, is an attempt to resolve charges by the European Union that the social media giant uses anticompetitive behavior.
