A widespread cybersecurity breach of the PowerSchool Student Information System — used across the U.S. and internationally — is impacting Connecticut schools. The incident was discovered Dec. 28.

The school district said the incident involved the education software provider, PowerSchool, it uses for its student information.

An education software provider used by Alabama schools that has access to student names, addresses and email addresses has been compromised, school officials confirmed. PowerSchool serves districts throughout the nation and had a national cybersecurity incident nationwide, according to Newsweek.

The Ottumwa Community School District (OCSD) is addressing a cybersecurity incident involving an education platform for managing student and staff information.

The educational software giant said it doesn’t anticipate any of the compromised information “being shared or made public,” as a review of the incident continues.

CT school districts, including Milford, Wallingford, Danbury, East Hartford and Region 16, are notifying parents about the PowerSchool cybersecurity breach.

School officials learned of the “potential cybersecurity incident” on Tuesday, Needham Public Schools Superintendent Dan Gutekanst said in a statement.
