Ursodiol(Actigall and Urso) generic is a bile acid, prescribed for dissolving gallstones. It helps to dissolve the stone by reducing the amount of cholesterol released by liver into bile.

Estrogens, oral contraceptives, clofibrate, other lipid-lowering drugs may reduce effectiveness of ursodiol by increasing hepatic cholesterol secretion.
