Smart home security systems combine many of the features of a traditional burglar alarm with the ability to monitor, control and interact with your alarm from an app on your smartphone or tablet.

[Jeff Sandberg] demonstrates that ably with his project to use ancient 1990s burglar alarm sensors in his modern smarthome setup. The sensors in question are from an old GM Interlogix security system.
